There’s a new diabetes resource online that you won't want to miss!

OK, it's not exactly brand new... Rather, it's a familiar site that recently rebranded with a new look and reader-friendly style. Have you heard yet of ?

What began as  in 2015 underwent a makeover and re-launch late last year to more accurately reflect their lineup of diabetes content beyond just fitness. It's run by husband-wife team Christel and Tobias Oerum, who hail from Denmark and now live in Southern California.

Earlier this year, they released their first eBook that captures the "best of" their useful advice on aspects of living successfully with diabetes.

Titled (harking back to their original focus), it contains more than 80 pages of practical tips, tricks, and advice on everything from various types of workouts to food choices to finding mental balance. You can download it online for $15, though we've got a chance to win a free copy for yourself! (see below)

But first, take a read of Christel's story, that sets the stage for all of this.

The Diabetes Strong Backstory

A longtime type 1 diagnosed in 1997, Christel is a personal trainer, diabetes advocate, and  (!). She started the site to share her story as a nutrition and fitness expert with T1D, delving into her experiences on managing food and exercise with diabetes and insulin in the mix. That grew quickly beyond just her own POV, and now attracts about 100,000 monthly visitors and a team of contributors writing about their own experiences as well as other D-items on fitness, nutrition, tech tools and treatments along with overall health.

Describing their site as an online diabetes magazine, Christel and Tobias say that changing the name to "Diabetes Strong" from "The Fit Blog" helped resolved the biggest irony -- that everything on the site relates to diabetes, but the word wasn't used in the title. That may have prevented many people from finding it in Google searches -- especially if those individuals weren't specifically looking for anything related to nutrition or fitness, or even a blog.

Of course, Christel and Tobias know website traffic isn't the sole focus – rather it’s about reaching as many people with diabetes as possible. Just one life impacted is what matters, they point out. And that's the motivation for everything.

"The mission and design of Diabetes Strong is centered around my motto that there is nothing you can’t do with diabetes -- if you have the right knowledge, tools and mindset," Christel says. "If we can reach just one more person and enable them to go out and live healthy and happily, then it's a success."

In redesigning the site, they created better navigation and categories for people to find different types of articles. The couple makes sure that every article has a positive, "how to" approach to diabetes and offers solutions for whatever the topic, be it losing weight with diabetes on board, preventing low blood sugars when exercising, or tips that might come in handy for those starting a jogging-around-the-neighborhood routine.

Christel's healthy meal plans and a library of online recipes and workout videos are very popular, and they're continually adding new content at least three times a week. They also plan to continue the community challenges they’ve initiated, with three or more planned for the next yea, following the first challenge focused on weight management in January.

While they have concentrated mostly on T1D to date, they hope to expand with more non-insulin T2D specific articles down the road.

Interestingly, Christel and Tobias tell us they didn't even come up with the new name themselves; it was a suggestion from a reader in response to their request for feedback on the rebranding. That phrase – reminiscent of Lance Armstrong’s LiveStrong site -- stuck and became the new name.

"It's about us all growing together, as a community," Christel says. "We can't do this in a silo, and we want to work with everyone."

New "Fit with Diabetes" eBook

Now onto the book, which would certainly benefit any PWD looking for tips on physical activity and living well.

We love that it offers honest and very practical advice on many different D-topics, addressed in the form of straightforward questions: "How to lose weight with diabetes?," "How to find your positive motivations?," "What is cardio and how does it affect blood sugar?" and so on.

My personal favorite is the part included in the end of each section that addressed: "What does all this mean in real life?"

Yes (!), that's always what I wonder when reading these kinds of guides that provide tips that often seem more abstract than practical.

The book is chock-full of specific sample workouts and recipes, and tips that you can copy-and-paste for reminders. They're all easy to weave into your own exercise and meal-planning routines. There are also fill-in-the-blank parts where you can map our your own goals and plans, and what might work or not as it's specific to your diabetes management and lifestyle.

While some of the advice may seem like common sense, as far as ways to be healthy and approach living well, these upbeat suggestions can help offset feelings of D-burnout and "blah" that we all experience at times. In this book, I personally found a great refresher on the  basics of healthy living and good diabetes habits I need to return to.

While I'm certainly never going to be a marathon runner or even someone who lifts weights for fun, I like how the tips in this book can also be applied to "let's walk the dog around the block" or "finally inflate the bike tires (again) for a bike-ride around the neighborhood." That's how I roll.

You can purchase the at the Diabetes Strong website for $15. But first, here's your chance to snag a free downloadable copy for yourself...
